Volunteers sought as a quarter of Yorkshire river samples show poor water quality

Almost a quarter of river samples taken across Yorkshire's Aire and Derwent catchments during April's Great UK WaterBlitz showed poor water quality, prompting Yorkshire Wildlife Trust's Rivers to Reef project to call for more volunteers ahead of September's next sampling weekend.

Turner Prize heads to Middlesbrough, with Yorkshire’s Simeon Barclay in the running

Mima will host the Turner Prize exhibition from 26 September 2026, bringing the award to historic North Yorkshire for the first time — with Huddersfield-born Simeon Barclay the only artist on this year's shortlist with direct Yorkshire roots, and a Yorkshire Sculpture Park director on the judging panel.
