[Updated 29th July 2026] We take your privacy seriously at Reader Magazine (“we”, “us”, “our”). This policy explains what data we collect, why, and how we look after it, in line with UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.
1. Who we are Reader Magazine is the data controller for information collected through readermagazine.co.uk and our email newsletters. Contact: office@readermagazine.co.uk
2. What we collect
- Newsletter subscribers: name, email address, and which edition(s) or list (reader or advertiser) you’ve signed up to.
- Advertisers: business name, contact name, email, phone number, and any details you share with us when enquiring about advertising.
- General site visitors: basic technical data such as IP address, browser type and pages visited, via cookies and analytics tools. Some of this may be collected without prior consent under the current PECR statistical-purposes exemption — see our Cookie Policy for the detail.
- Contact form / email enquiries: whatever you choose to include in your message.
3. How we use it
- To send you the newsletter(s) you’ve signed up to — issue alerts for readers, or advertising updates for advertisers — and nothing else through that channel.
- To reply to enquiries you send us.
- To manage and keep up good advertising relationships.
- To understand how the Site is used, so we can make it better.
- We don’t use your data for anything beyond what you signed up for, and we never sell or rent your personal data to third parties.
4. Newsletter subscribers, specifically When you subscribe, we ask you to confirm your subscription (double opt-in) to make sure it’s really you. We keep your email address and name for as long as you remain subscribed. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in every email, or by contacting us directly — this takes effect immediately, and we’ll remove your details from our mailing list provider within a reasonable period.
5. Legal basis for processing We rely on your consent (for newsletter sign-ups), our legitimate interests (for responding to enquiries and improving the Site), and, where relevant, the steps necessary to fulfil a contract (for advertisers we’re working with).
6. How long we keep data We keep newsletter data for as long as you’re subscribed, plus a short period afterwards for record-keeping. We keep advertiser and enquiry data for as long as reasonably needed to manage that relationship, and no longer than necessary.
7. Your rights Under UK GDPR you have the right to access, correct, delete, or restrict use of your personal data, and to object to processing or ask for your data to be transferred elsewhere. To exercise any of these, email office@readermagazine.co.uk.
If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your data, please raise it with us first at office@readermagazine.co.uk. — we’ll acknowledge your complaint within 30 days and respond in full without undue delay. If you’re still not satisfied, you have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk).
8. Data security We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your data against loss, misuse or unauthorised access.
9. Changes to this policy We may update this policy from time to time; the “last updated” date at the top will always reflect the latest version.
