A police cordon on Mapplebeck Road in Sheffield’s High Green area, put up on Tuesday evening when nearby households were evacuated while officers searched a property tied to an explosives investigation, has now been lifted, South Yorkshire Police confirmed on Wednesday.
Officers have had a presence at the address since 11 September, the force said, following a forensic search that led to a 36-year-old woman appearing in court on Monday, charged under Section 4 of the Explosive Substances Act 1883 and remanded in custody.
Police say the decision to move residents out came after specialists uncovered further hidden items on the site the following afternoon, with the Army’s Explosive Ordnance Team subsequently leading the search; nobody has been hurt.
