Priority chicane to slow traffic on Hull’s Meadowbank Road

Hull City Council has begun a road safety scheme on Meadowbank Road, installing a priority chicane just south of the Morris Road junction to slow traffic entering the area.

The chicane narrows the carriageway so southbound vehicles have priority through the pinch point, while traffic coming the other way must give way, working alongside a new 20mph zone. The works will also renew footways, kerbs and tactile crossings near the junction.

The construction plan.

The road will close fully while contractors PBS Construction complete the job, with diversions routed via Cardigan Road and Roslyn Road, though access stays open for residents, waste collections and emergency vehicles throughout.

Councillor Mark Ieronimo, Hull City Council’s cabinet portfolio holder for transport and infrastructure, said the measures would “create a safer community for people walking in the area.”

Work runs from Monday 10 August to Wednesday 9 September.
