A festive tipi is set to open in The Glass Works Square this coming December, offering a cosy winter hangout in the middle of Barnsley town centre.
Run by True North Brew Co, which already operates a bar at Market Kitchen within The Glass Works, the True North Tipi opens as part of the wider Christmas on The Square programme from Friday 4 December through to New Year’s Eve, running noon to 11pm daily and until midnight on the 31st. Expect a festoon-lit exterior, winter foliage and outdoor seating outside, with evergreen garlands, fairy lights, rugs, throws and a central fire pit inside. A 12-line bar covers draught beer, wine, spirits, bottled drinks, mulled wine, spiced cider and a festive cocktail and schnapps menu, alongside non-alcoholic options and seasonal hot drinks.
True North is also offering Christmas party packages and private hire, with a weekly events programme including brass bands, arts and craft sessions, live music and wreath-making workshops. Beyond the tipi, Christmas on The Square brings back the Artisan Street Fayre (Friday 4–Sunday 6 December, and again Friday 18–Sunday 20 December) and the Young Trader Market on Saturday 12 December.

True North will also support its charity campaign, Mission Christmas, running a toy and gift drop-off point for disadvantaged children and young people across South Yorkshire.
