Wakefield menopause specialist shortlisted for national Clinical Leader of the Year award

Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust consultant gynaecologist and menopause specialist Miss Veena Kaul has been shortlisted for Clinical Leader of the Year at the HSJ Awards 2026, for her work improving menopause care.

After noticing women were facing waits of more than a year for specialist menopause support, Kaul led the development of a more sustainable, integrated service, working with colleagues across primary and secondary care, pharmacists, managers, patients and partner organisations to give more women timely access to the right care. Kaul said: “I am delighted to be shortlisted for Clinical Leader of the Year.”

Dr Debbie Hallott, GP and Clinical Advisor for Women’s Health, who worked alongside Kaul on the transformation, said: “Veena Kaul is an exceptional clinical leader.” She said Kaul had transformed women’s health services across Wakefield, West Yorkshire and nationally, significantly improving patient outcomes, reducing waiting times and enhancing access to specialist care.

HSJ Editor Alastair McLellan said: “It always gives me great pleasure to congratulate our finalists.” Winners will be announced at the HSJ Awards ceremony at Evolution London on 19 November 2026.
