Sir Lenny Henry brings his first full stand-up tour in over a decade, Still At Large, to Leeds Grand Theatre on Sunday 27 September. In a new interview, he talks about scuba-diving with sharks, ageing, and stepping back on stage after more than ten years away.
The show is billed around the life of “21st-century Lenny” — stories about ageing, “body malfunction” and life with his partner, producer and casting director Lisa Makin, alongside clips and audience questions covering a career that runs from Tiswas and Chef! to Othello and The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.
Among the anecdotes: On a scuba-diving trip in Greece, a year after filming ITV’s Shark! Celebrity Infested Waters in the Bahamas, Henry found himself oddly disappointed there weren’t any sharks about. “That’s a good thing there were no flipping sharks,” he laughs.
