Care-experienced young people enjoy beach day out in Bridlington

Care-experienced young people enjoyed a day of beach games, swimming and food on the sand as part of a beach day organised by East Riding of Yorkshire Council at Bridlington.

The event was open to care leavers aged 16-25, children in care aged 16-18, and separated migrant children, who took part in ball games and a swim in the sea, and relaxed together at a beach chalet. It forms part of a wider year-round programme of activities supporting young people as they move towards independent living.

Councillor Victoria Aitken, Cabinet Member for Children, Families and Education, said: “It’s great that so many of our young people have enjoyed their day at Bridlington Beach, with rounders, football and relaxing in the sun. It’s a chance for them to engage with their support workers in a different, more relaxed environment, which has lots of benefits for interactions between them. It’s also a fantastic day for young people to enjoy time with their peers and build connections.

“When young people leave local authority care we ensure they continue to be supported, and events like this are a key part of the support to ensure a smooth transition from care to adulthood.”

The council continues to support care leavers with study, work, accommodation, finances, health and wellbeing, and building relationships and participation in their local community.
